Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The HEIC decoder (libheif, compiled to WebAssembly) is embedded inside the page itself, so conversion happens entirely on your machine. It works with your Wi-Fi off.

Why would I need to convert HEIC to JPG at all?

Because so much software still can't read HEIC — website upload fields, email clients that show a grey box, Windows PCs that can't preview it. JPG opens everywhere.

Does the converted JPG keep the original's metadata?

No — the output JPG carries no EXIF metadata (camera, GPS, timestamp). That's a deliberate trade-off, and it's also why the orientation comes out right with no extra rotation step.

Can I convert a whole folder at once?
